Card-driven (war)games(缩写CDG),卡牌驱动战棋是Mark Herman于1993年发布的We the People(Avalon Hill于19914年出版)中首创。其机制定义为使用卡牌驱动大多数游戏要素的游戏(战棋)。一般来说,CDG中需要使用卡牌驱动单位执行行动,或触发特殊事件。由于卡牌文字替代了很多规则文字,也由于卡牌机制的多变性,使得很多设计师尝试这一机制。经过20年发展,CDG已经成为发展最迅猛的战棋类别(没有之一)。
Mark Herman对于CDG的定义非常狭窄,即卡牌需要成为游戏行动的主要推动力。这与一些称为“卡牌辅助”游戏有本质上的区别。下面简要介绍部分CDG(限于战棋)。
